A weekend in Andorra | abba Ordino Babot Hotel

The perfect getaway at abba Ordino Babot Hotel

Friday: Arrive, Breathe, and Disconnect

Some journeys begin long before you reach your destination. In Andorra, the getaway starts as the roads wind deep into the mountains and the urban landscape gives way to forests, valleys, and peaks that seem endless.

Located in a privileged setting, abba Ordino Babot Hotel—surrounded by nature and offering panoramic views of the Ordino Valley—invites you to leave the rush behind and connect with a much slower pace. Its wellness area, equipped with a sauna, jacuzzi, and water zone, is the ideal sanctuary.

After settling into your room, the best way to kick off the weekend is to enjoy the surroundings. A stroll around the area, a drink on the terrace, or simply watching the evening fall over the mountains are small pleasures that take on a special meaning here.

To round off this first day, the hotel’s Restaurant 1425 offers an excellent introduction to local gastronomy, highlighting its grilled meats and traditional Pyrean dishes, which can be enjoyed while watching the sunset over the valley.

Saturday: Nature and Cultural Charm

Saturday begins with a full buffet breakfast at the hotel, ideal for charging your batteries with local products as the morning light starts to illuminate the peaks. After breakfast, it’s time to explore some of the Principality’s most spectacular landscapes. Just a 20-minute drive from the hotel is the access point to the Tristaina Lakes, an easy-to-moderate circular hiking trail that allows you to skirt three stunning glacial lakes in about two to three hours. Those looking for even more spectacular views can head up to the Tristaina Solar Viewpoint, a structure suspended in mid-air at an altitude of 2,700 meters, accessed by gondola and chairlift, offering an unforgettable 360-degree panorama.

Upon returning to the hotel after the hike, midday calls for a moment of absolute relaxation in its outdoor pool. Swimming or simply resting by the water while taking in the panoramic views of the valley and mountains is one of the most comforting experiences of the getaway.

In the afternoon, we head to the village of Ordino, considered one of the most beautiful spots in Andorra thanks to its cobbled streets and stone and slate houses. Strolling through its historic center is like traveling back in time. A visit to Casa d’Areny-Plandolit is a must; it is the country’s only manor house preserved intact, showcasing the luxury of families linked to the old iron foundries in the 19th century. Nearby, you will find the Church of Sant Corneli i Sant Cebrià, a medieval temple with exceptional Romanesque carvings, and the curious Miniature Museum, which exhibits artworks invisible to the naked eye that can only be viewed through a microscope.

Sunday: Saying Goodbye, Looking Forward to Returning

Before heading back, Sunday morning invites you to discover the historical legacy of the valley through the Iron Route (Ruta del Ferro). This flat trail of about 4 kilometers connects Llorts with La Cortinada and is dotted with contemporary sculptures that pay tribute to the country’s ancient ironworking tradition. At the end of the path awaits the Church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada, one of the great jewels of Andorran Romanesque architecture, notable for its 12th-century mural paintings and its imposing Baroque altarpiece.

As a finishing touch, and taking advantage of the exit route, a mere 15-minute drive from the hotel brings you to the commercial area of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany—the perfect spot for some shopping before saying goodbye to the Pyrenees.
